Terry Allen Book Signing
Friday, July 9, 2010
The Belger Arts Center is honored to host the prolific visual artist and songwriter/performer Terry Allen, this summer, for a very special weekend. On Friday, July 9, Terry will sign copies of the new book Terry Allen from the University of Texas Press. The book, with over 300 images, includes essays about his artwork and musical output. The signing will take place from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Belger Arts Center. A reception will follow from 6:00-8:00 PM. Six artworks from, Youth In Asia, Allen's monumental study of post-traumatic stress among Vietnam War veterans, will be on display in the Belger's third floor gallery. Among the works will be "Tables and Angels," an interactive installation.
The book-signing will be followed, on July 10, with a concert at Knuckleheads Saloon in Kansas City. Allen has recorded more than 10 albums and toured extensively since the 1960s. His songs have been recorded by Little Feat, David Byrne, and other notables of the music world.
Dave Hickey, one of America's leading art commentators, wrote the introduction to Terry Allen. Hickey once said, "...if we had been fortunate enough to be living in a 'renaissance', Terry Allen would certainly qualify as a 'renaissance man.'"
Don't miss this opportunity to meet Terry Allen, the visual artist, and Terry Allen, the musician!
